Makenna Lewis cringes at any mention of the word commitment. She doesn’t want or need a relationship, but she does like sex (who doesn't).

That explains Noah, Sean, and Zander, her three 'friends with benefits'.

They know the score, they know they're not the only one, and each of them provide her with a different physical need that she craves and enjoys.

Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.

Soon she finds herself feeling things she vowed never to feel again, and when Daniel pushes for more than she’s willing to give, she falters.

What do you do when something that you’ve known to be so wrong in the past feels so damn right?

If you’re Mac, you run and hide.

But is Daniel the type of man who takes no for an answer?

*Disclaimer - There is absolutely no cheating in this book. However, this book does contain descriptive and super hot sex scenes that will make you blush and leave you hot and bothered. Make sure you have you husband, partner, boyfriend or significant other nearby when reading, or else batteries. Lots and lots of batteries*

Synopsis
She watched her best friend find her superhero.
Now she wants her turn.
Despite a run of bad dates with Mr. Wrong, Mr. Boring, Mr. Bad Breath, Mr. Grabby Hands, and even Mr. Say I Love You After One Date To Get Into Your Pants, Kate McGuinness is more determined than ever to find the one.
Having tried everything else, she turns to the internet in a last ditch attempt to find her elusive prince.
But Kate doesn't want an everyday, run of the mill love.
She wants the kind of love that makes your heart skip a beat. The kind of love that makes you dance in the rain and bottle up the sunset. The once in a lifetime kind of love that authors
write about, musicians sing about, and lovers dream about.
Could a certain police officer in training, who has come to her rescue in the past, be the one to swoop in and save her heart?
What if the love Kate desperately seeks has been in front of her the whole time?
She just needs to open her eyes to see it...

*Disclaimer: This book contains a hot as hell stripper with a penchant for public sex and exhibitionism who may or may not succeed in bringing out the inner firecracker in all of us. Oh, and don't forget the batteries.*

This is a lovely book for teens that shows friendship, love and loyalty can overcome even in the most tragic circumstances.

What happens when a major earthquake changes life as you know it and the boy you thought you hated ends up saving you? Three times!
Courtland Reese is the guy everyone hates and makes fun of because ... well, he is weird. He communicates with animals. Strange or interesting, seventeen-year-old Adela Castielle can't quite figure out, but when he saves her from being trampled by her own horse, she begins to understand him a little better and wants to learn more about him.
But, Max--her best friend/dream guy/someday-to-be-her-husband-only-he-doesn't-know-it-yet--hates Courtland with a passion. Adela wants to know why, except neither boy is talking.
When Max leaves her stranded in his parents' wine cave with his worst enemy, Courtland, after what the experts are calling a "megathrust" earthquake, Adela starts to question her loyalty to Max as steamy kisses in a dark damp cellar only fuel her emotions with more conflict.

Excerpt:

He shoved another armload full of socks and t-shirts on top of jeans in a duffel bag, then turned to walk to the bathroom to retrieve personal hygiene items. He barely glanced up to acknowledge Isaiah, arms crossed over his chest in a comfortable stance, leaning on the doorjamb.
"Going somewhere?" Isaiah asked coolly.
"As far away from here as I can get," he responded from the darkened bathroom.
"You do know there is a meeting about to begin downstairs, right?"
Thoros nodded once as he re-entered the bedchamber, not bothering to look at the archangel. He tossed the items in the duffle with the rest of the things he would need for his extended journey. "I am aware of the meeting. I am also aware that she does not want or need me there." He looked left then right, and then paused only another brief moment before zipping the bag closed and tossing it over his right shoulder.
Thoros meant to walk through the doorway, but Isaiah stood upright and blocked the only exit with his body. Well, there was always the window. He thought about turning and diving through the glass and wondered briefly if he would clear the cement and land in the water of the underground swimming pool. The cement would hurt like a bitch. Hell, who was he kidding? The damn glass would hurt! He knew fleeting wasn't an option. The angel would have already put a halt on that shit.
Letting the pack fall to the floor, Thoros rolled his eyes toward the ceiling and huffed. "Out of my way, old man. She made it clear she doesn't want me. If you didn't hear her, I can give you a recap: it was a whole lot of 'get lost'."
"Old man? I'll have you know I look younger than you. Especially as of late. You should exfoliate more, and moisturize."
"You knew what I meant."
"That I am thousands of years old? Yes," Isaiah nodded as his lips pursed together. "I am that. That also means I probably have a lot of wisdom, and listening to me would more than likely be in your best interest."
"Listening to you has done nothing but piss me off, angel."
"You have to go with her. You have to know that it is difficult for her to trust you when she has thought all along that you've betrayed her."
Thoros' jaw locked down tight and he spoke through his teeth as anger burst from the depths of his half-soul. "Yeah, and whose fault was that? You could have told her at any time in the three months we've spent apart that I was the one who saved her. That I am the one she is destined to be with. But no, instead, you were a coward who let her dream day and night about going in search of the lost angel, a male fate never intended her to be with!"
Isaiah moved out of the way to let him pass and Thoros jumped at the chance, grabbing his duffle and rushing through the doorway. "I see. You are just going to take the easy way out? Never look back? Never see her again?"
"Oh, I'll see her again," he said, but didn't bother slowing down or looking at the archangel. "I'll see her every time I close my eyes."
"She deserves for you to give her time, Thoros. If you truly love her, then you must know that walking away is not the answer to your problems."
Thoros froze as his boot landed on the third step from the bottom of the grand staircase. Love. He allowed himself a moment to think about that word. His skin flushed hot and his foot slipped to the next step, causing him to lose his balance and having to reach out for the banister to steady himself. He believed she was his soulmate and that he wanted to be with her—but love? No. Love? Never. He had never been in love before. Was this what this horrible feeling was? And what happened if the one you allowed yourself to fall in love with didn't love you back? What the hell happens then? Right. Broken heart. That's what the horrible feeling was. Fan-fucking-tastic! He had never expected to experience it before, but he never imagined it would actually hurt. He rubbed at the center of his chest and fought the hot sting of tears that filled his eyes. He looked around him, all of a sudden dizzy. Wiping at the sheen of sweat that had broken on his brow, Thoros swallowed hard and concentrated on calming the erratic beating of his heart.
"Do not give up on her. Your time will come, son."
He turned around and looked to the top of the stairs at Isaiah, blinking the angel into focus. "And what if it never does?" he whispered around the lump in his throat.
"You will know you tried and will never have any regrets where she is concerned."
"I already have regrets where Josselyn is concerned. I regret ever having met her."
Thoros turned and stumbled down the remaining steps, and then crossed the foyer and opened the front door.
"It's for the best."
Isaiah didn't respond to his thought, so he took a step over the threshold and closed the door gently behind him.

or actually quite close

It is a time of chaotic hormones.
Two nerdy gents

have discovered a female gamer
at a midnight release.

During the break,
the gamer trio manages
to reveal the game’s secret boss,
a hidden enemy
with enough power to destroy
anything in its path.

Pursued by other gamers
who want to be the first
to beat this boss,
George and Katie race to level up,
and, in so doing, restore decency
and sexual activity to their personal galaxy…

Where can you find it?

“These graphics suck,” George says and I look back at the screen. We’re standing in the middle of the Estate, colorful orbs quivering ahead of us. We each have to choose our starting advantage. Waterfalls shimmer in the distance and the sunlight streams over multicolored stones in the courtyard.

“Amateurs,” Lanyon concurs. “I mean, they couldn’t have five waterfalls?”

“Your ironic wit is mind blowing, but choose your damn orbs,” I tell them. I consider. Magic, defense, offense, stealth, and charisma. I always go for magic as a black mage, but I wonder if a druid needs something else. Screw it. I need charisma in real life, too.

“Charisma?” Lanyon asks. “No one ever picks charisma.”

“We’re a party of a thief, druid, and a bard. We’re screwed regardless.”

“You two underestimate the mighty power of my lute,” George argues.

“Did you start with charisma?” Lanyon asks.

“Hell, no. I have charisma in spades. I started with stealth.”

“Great. A stealthy bard,” I sigh.

“She’s right,” Lanyon concedes. “We’re screwed.”

However, it actually isn’t bad at all at first. We power through the Estate and make it to the Yobanaria Dale with no resurrections and all at level ten. I’m impressed. George hasn’t actually fought anything, but he has some pretty awe-inspiring charm mastery already. I think I might have a serious crush. He seals the deal when he buffs my hailstorm spell without even being asked.

“Can you guys watch El Thiefelo? My mom wants me to eat supper,” Lanyon says.

“Yeah, we’ve got it,” I tell him. “The first boss is in the elven ruins anyway, so we should grind a bit. I think he’s a twelve.”

George and I explore the Dale, taking out bats and Joba spores. It’s fairly quiet, except for when we combo with his charms and my spells and he yells out, “Eat lute, bitch,” but it’s nice. We work well, almost inherently understanding each other. I’ve never been able to play this effectively with anyone. I try not to think about his eyes. Stupid boys, being cute and stuff.

By the time Lanyon comes back, we’re all at level 12, although Lanyon leveled up just by standing by a door while we played. Still, we are ready to take on Balsa the Proud. As a black mage, it took me about nine seconds. Trees don’t like fire. However, druids don’t have the same level of black magic and all elemental magic is weakened by the need to draw from the elements nearby. Sadly, trees seem to avoid storing fire runes in their villages. I expect this to be a little more challenging. It might even take fifteen seconds.

“First boss. Also known as the freebie bitch to sucker the young folks into a false sense of security,” Lanyon announces as he runs into the center of Balsa’s lair. The cinema plays and then, in a moment of pure absurdity, El Thiefelo is squished as Balsa steps on him.

“Can someone revive me?” Lanyon whines.

About the Authors:

Sarah Daltry
writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She's written works in various genres - romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn't as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she's been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships - romantic, familial, friendly - because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn't matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future - human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah's stories.

Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.

When Sarah isn't writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.

She has written several books, most notably Bitter Fruits, an urban fantasy in the Eden’s Fall series, and the Flowering series, including Forget Me Not, Lily of the Valley, and Star of Bethlehem.

Pete Clark likes writing, animals, potato chips, and cheese. Midnight Riders is his first published novel, although he can also proudly say he finally finished Helix Crashing, the fantasy novel he has been working on for over a decade. In addition, he has written Across the Barren Landscape, a collection of linked Western short stories. He also writes plays, both dramatic and comedic.

When he is not writing, Pete tends to ignore everyone around him and obsess over sports.

REVIEW: The Punishment Due by Justin Osborne

My review of The Punishment Due by Justin Osborne
I give this book 4 stars!
I really would give this 4.5 stars if I could. This story is fascinating. I read the whole thing in one sitting. The Justin’s choice of words sucked me into a world that made me feel as if I was watching a scene from a movie. Garrett must pay for his sins and I got chills when a certain situation was being explained by the character Vincente. Being only 11 pages or so, I did feel as if this was more just a chapter in what could be a much longer book. This is the only reason for taking off half a star. I would most definitely buy more stories from this author!

Description:
Garrett Mosely is facing a long and arduous prison sentence for his unspeakable crimes, but when a strange man pays him a visit in his cell, Garrett is given the chance to cleanse his soul at a terrible and fitting cost.

REVIEW: Fated by Daniele Lanzarotta

Kerry's review of Fated (Mermaid’s Curse book 2) by Daniele Lanzarotta
I give this book 4.5 stars!
These need to be read in order for sure. As the second in a series, this definitely keeps up the pace set by the first book. I was pulled back into the Mermaid world right from the first page and just could NOT put it down! Arianna is such a realistic character that I found myself wanting to crawl between the pages and comfort her during the bad times or cheering her on when things finally seem to start going her way. Blake spends so much time trying to get everything to go in the right direction and keeps getting pushed back at every turn. I did find a few typos that caught my eye but I was easily distracted from that because Daniele’s writing is so intense that there is little room to stop and come up for air before the next wave comes crashing. I only took off half a star because of the big cliff-hanger ending and I don’t how I will manage to wait until the next book comes out!

Description
Tormented by his past and his dysfunctional family, Blake finds himself turning to the one thing that he promised Arianna he would never do. While Blake finds himself fighting his addiction, Arianna puts all of her problems aside to help him, including the guilt of the secrets she hides. When given the chance to be free of his father and start his own life, Blake and Arianna will believe that anything is possible... at least until they learn how far his father is willing to go to get what he wants.

REVIEW: Char by Mercy Amare

Kerry's review of Char by Mercy Amare
I give this book 4.5 stars!
Charlotte is the youngest of three sisters with the older two both being very much in the spotlight and famous for one reason or another and all Char wants is to be left alone. I felt bad for her when some of the situations were out of her control. The author’s descriptions of what Char goes through are very realistic and I could actually visualize the scenes as they were playing out. I really enjoyed reading this story and had a hard time putting the book down. I would be very interested to get more stories from each of the sisters’ points of view as well. I will definitely be getting more of this author’s work in the near future!

Description
(NEW ADULT ROMANCE)

I’m Charlotte York, but you can call me Char.

My life is perfect. Except for the fact that my older sister is posing naked for Playboy. And my mom wants me to be just like her. Oh, and I caught my boyfriend cheating on me. But other than that, it’s definitely perfect… Until the paparazzi publishes a picture of me smoking weed.

Now I am being forced to move to NYC with my dad. Too bad I hate New York.

At least there is Tristan Becker. He makes NY better. But he won’t date me because he thinks my best friend is in love with me. Which is absolutely not true… Or at least I don’t think it is.

As you can see my life is just… perfect.

REVIEW: Easy Bake Coven by Liz Schulte

Kerry's review of Easy Bake Coven by Liz Schulte
I give this book 4.5 stars!

I love this book! I was intrigued by the title and it only got better from there. I felt bad for Selene getting thrust into a world she had no memory of living in but I love how she deals with everything being thrown at her. The author’s writing style is descriptive without being overpowering and very easy to follow. The story has just enough calmness in between the action that it isn’t overwhelming but not too slow as to bore the reader. Overall I found this very likable, funny and extremely addicting. I can’t wait to get the next in the series.

For Selene Warren being a witch is no big deal. She dabbles in harmless magic with her friends and never thinks much about it. However, when a stranger who seems to know her shows up at her studio and her grandmother is brutally attacked, her simple life becomes complicated.

REVIEW: Burning Bridges by Nadẻge Richards

Kerry's review of Burning Bridges by Nadẻge Richards
I give this book 4 stars!
This is one of those books I just could not put down. The author’s writing style is so intriguing I found myself feeling as if I were living among the characters and seeing their lives as if it were a part of my own. Echo and Ayden are so opposite, yet they are drawn to each other at every turn. I found myself rooting for them, even when everything fell apart. The only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel like a few parts were missing. There is a time jump (don’t worry, no spoilers!) that was sort of explained but I still feel like I missed part of the story. With just a paragraph or so more explanation I would have definitely given this a 5 star review. I will certainly be getting the second book in the series!

CELEBRATING VETERANS DAY

VETERAN’S DAY! It’s one of those holidays no one who isn’t related to a veteran knows what to do with. How about this? Read a book written by an author who is a veteran or active duty military. Help out with a books for vets project. Check out some of these and if you can recommend others, please leave details in the comments.

Casey Sean Harmon is the author of the popular book for young pre-teens, The Ever After Story. He has also published the diary he kept while he was in basic training, Becoming Private Harmon. In it you will find how he changed, his attitudes, his confidence, and his writing style. The now Captain Harmon says there were other interesting things that happened, but he was so busy that he often didn’t have time to write. Rather than add those in later, he released his journal as it was originally written. I highly recommend this book for all young men and women who are considering a career in the military.

Casey’s The Everafter Chronicles is a fun, fascinating and original fantasy story.

Gail Winfree joined the Army and was sent to the Defense Information School where he studied journalism. The training and experience he received in the Army has been invaluable to his writing. He says, "As military journalists, we were prepared to go anywhere in the world and use whatever was available to us to get the news out. Writing was simple and clean, no gimmicks, no computer, no Internet, just a pad and pencil, a typewriter, and a 35mm camera. We learned to do it all."
After leaving the Army, he wrote and published "K-town: A City Guide" in 1987. It was the first English language book about Kaiserslautern (a city in southwestern Germany with a large U.S. military population) and sold very well locally. Since the book was a local guide, it was self-published and sold locally. That was quite a feat in those pre-electronic, pre-digital days. Again, his Army training paid off.

In 1994, he went to work for the USO in Kaiserslautern where he's currently the tours and marketing manager. He also publishes the monthly USO magazine, Kaiserslautern Kabel, for the English language community here.

Several years ago, Monika and Gail bought an old (built in 1875) farm house in a small village in the Palatinate Forest area where they spend a lot of time working on the house and in the garden.
His first novel, "Finding What's Lost," was published in October 2012. It is the story of a young man who grew up far too sheltered. When tragedy strikes, he loses everything he thought he knew about himself. His journey to find out who he is takes him in some very unexpected directions. Told in memories, musings, letters and prayers, this is a fascinating book of discovery.

A powerful woman, an extraordinary man, and a maniac who wants to destroy them. Fate has brought them together, but will it make them stronger or destroy them all in end?

Escape to a world where the impossible becomes possible and sparks ignite.

WHISPER CAPE is a town of secrets and Addison MacKenna soon becomes tangled in a web of them. Plagued with nightmares of her father's sudden and brutal death, Addie struggles with her anguish and refuses to believe his demise was accidental.

Fighting to shake off one of those devastating early morning nightmares, Addison finds it even harder to escape from the vision of a man lying on the side of the road--a man she may have just killed. When she frantically tries to locate him, he seemingly disappears, just the beginning of strange occurrences in her life. She also cannot ignore the weird sensations in her own body. Suddenly, the impossible seems possible, but is that a blessing or a curse?
Believing that her continual and worsening nightmares are both the key to her own new abilities and the clue to her father's death, Addie knows she will not rest until she has the answers she craves. As she strives to cope with her new remarkable talents, someone else learns of her abilities--a disgruntled maniacal psychopath with his own agenda that involves eliminating Addie. The only one who can protect her, instruct her in the use of her powers and teach her how to destroy the murderous monster is the same man who makes Addie's heart race and her blood heat with passion. The same man she'd left for dead.

Cael Sheridan may be arrogant and mysterious but he's also undeniably gorgeous. A member of a secret society, he is sworn to protect the woman he believes to be the daughter of his recently murdered mentor. In the process, he finds it impossible to resist her magnetic sensuality, complicating his efforts to shield and guide her as she learns to manage her newly acquired skills. At the same time, Addison has much to teach him about trust and commitment. Will fate win in the end? You be the judge.

Meet the Author:
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, spending most of my time daydreaming or playing around in the mud. I grew out of the mud play, well, most of the time, a good soak in the mud is always fun. I still daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn't write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. During my childhood, I would frequently get in trouble in school for daydreaming. Eventually, my vivid imagination paid off and I had the privilege of writing and co-directing my sixth-grade class play—a dreadful disaster, though not from my writing, of course. I'm pretty sure it was the acting.

I enjoy writing about characters living in small quaint towns and tend to lean toward the unusual and edgy.

My paranormal playing field delves into a different milieu, abandoning vampires and werewolves, but not

discounting them. Someday I might like to write a novel about vamps and those furry creatures. But for now I like the bizarre mixed with romance. A strong hero or heroine confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers and capabilities gets my blood running hot as does an steamy contemporary romantic suspense.

I have THREE FINAL QUESTIONS before we get on to the excerpts:
Q - What was your favorite childhood book as do you think it influenced what you read or write today?
Susan - I guess the Littlest Witch. It did get me hooked on paranormal and spooky stuff. It was my first chapter book. I also read a lot of the Bobbsey Twins. I used to pretend I had a twin sister. That would have been awesome.

Q - The Whisper Cape series is intense and a fascinating vision of an unusual world. After working on a story like that, what do you do to get back into the real world?
Susan - Not much, really. I don't think I ever really leave it. LOL Cael and Addie, Gerry and Maia, they are always with me. Sometimes I think of things for them to do, and remember that, oh yeah, I finished writing that story. But I do read when I'm not writing, but then that doesn't put me back into the real world either. I love to go out to dinner, that usually brings me around.

Q - If you could have lunch with any author, who would you choose and why?
Susan - Just one? I'm being greedy. LOL Nora Roberts. Her writing has always drawn me in and inspired me, no matter what story it is. I don't think I've even not loved one of them. I'm sure that if I could spend just ten minutes with her, I could come back with a hundred and one tidbits of knowledge and trade secrets to make me a better writer. Can you set that lunch up for me? :)

Excerpt from Whisper Cape:

Forgetting everything except her, he wanted her with a fierceness he had never experienced before. She moaned softly as she tangled her fingers in his hair while his tongue glided down her neck. She shivered as he kissed her softly.
“God, you smell delicious,” he said, pulling her jacket aside as his lips and tongue skimmed down her collarbone. “Addison, I want you so much.” He brought his face back up, covering her mouth with his. As he tasted her, he sensed her soul, the intensity so arousing he was losing control. Forcing himself to stop, he lingered at the spot under her earlobe.
“Not here.” His voice was husky, his breath ragged. “Let’s go back to the house before we have an X-rated scene on the beach.”
They’d barely made it in the house before he was pulling her to him again, covering her with more hot kisses. As they struggled to get their jackets off, Addison’s hand slipped and hit his gun. “Here, wait.” He unbuckled the holster and let it fall to the floor. They tugged at each other’s clothes with an uncontrollable frenzy. She unbuttoned his shirt, and he shrugged it off and onto the floor. His mouth came down on hers hard and she wrapped her arms around his waist, her fingers pressing into his back. He tugged her top up and she lifted her arms as he pulled her blouse over her head without even unbuttoning it.
He kissed her neck, brushing fluttering little kisses down to her shoulder. “God, Addison, you’re doing some major damage to my self-control. Since I first laid eyes on you, I’ve dreamed of this. You’re so sexy. I can’t keep my hands off you.”
He cupped her breast in his hand and covered her mouth again with his. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she moaned, and he scooped her up, cradling her in his arms as he carried her upstairs.
He laid her on the bed and stretched out on top of her, kissing her lips then her neck, grazing her throat with his teeth, his tongue tasting the salt from the ocean breeze still lingering on her skin.
“You’re making me crazy. I can’t breathe, Cael.” Her breath warm on his neck, she ran her nails down his back, trembling beneath him.
He started to move away, fearful of crushing her. “Am I hurting you?”
“No, don’t move, stay. I want to feel your body on mine.” She pulled him tight, her heart pounding against his, as need had his breath catching in his lungs.

Excerpt from Reflections:

She walked closer to him, lowered her gaze to his chest and put her hand there, her fingers toying with the button on his shirt. “I wanted to see if there was anything still there. Still here.” She ran her finger in a circle around the spot on his chest where his heart was. “Between us.” She looked back up into his eyes. “And … I can see in your eyes, that maybe with a little coaxing …”
“You’re wrong so don’t flatter yourself, Reenie; you should have your eyes checked. I’m in love with Maia.”
“Yes, well, you’re not married to the woman, are you?”
Married? Gerry hadn’t thought about it. Married? No, he’d never been the marrying kind. Did that make him an uncaring man, considering Maia was pregnant? Did it mean he loved Maia any less? That was something he should think about—later. “No. I’m not.”
Placing her hand on his shoulder, she slid her tongue over her bottom lip. “Well, then, what’s to stop you from having a little fun with me? Do you still own the sexy little silk boxers I so enjoyed seeing you in?”
“No. I don’t.” Did he? He wasn’t sure. Underwear was underwear, not something he gave much thought to. Like marriage.
“I still have the little silk number you gave me. Ahhh ... we had such good times back then, didn’t we?” Not waiting for a response from Gerry, she went on. “I’ve been thinking about you for such a long time. You can’t tell me you haven’t thought of me, Gerry. Do you remember what you said to me when I left? You said you didn’t think you’d ever forget me, or even could forget me.”
“No, what I said was I didn’t think I’d ever forget what you did to me.”

Excerpt from A Secret Fate:

Days began to run together. Addie lost track of how many. She’d slept most of the day today, not unlike all the other days recently. Nowhere she wanted to go. Nothing she wanted to do. Sleep was an escape as long as she didn’t have a nightmare, but lately she dreamed of Cael most times. Unfortunately, he didn’t remember her in any of those dreams. Too much like real life.
Addie watched particles of dust float within the ray of light coming in through the window as the sun began its slow descent into the horizon. Like most things, cleaning house was not a high priority. Glancing at the kitchen, she considered making some coffee when the faint knock on the door jolted her. Addie didn’t know why it surprised her. She’d been expecting another visit from Darcy or Maia. What she hadn’t expected when she opened the door was Aiden. Aiden was Gerry’s best friend growing up and best man at his and Maia’s wedding a few weeks ago. Aiden had come by a couple of days after Cael’s disappearance to check on her, offering coffee and donuts, but Addie had been rude. Very rude, she remembered. He hadn’t been back since.
She sighed. “Why are you here?” Still rude, she thought, but wasn’t sure she cared.
“Came to see how you are. They say you haven’t left here since the wedding.” His voice dripped with the same thickly coated Scottish accent Gerry possessed.
Addie shot him a dagger-riddled glance. “Yes, I have,” she stated defensively. “I went to …” She hesitated and thought about the place where she’d last seen Cael and cried, begging him to hear her thoughts again and come home. Her voice shaky and raw, she tried to finish the sentence, “…to the spot where …”
“The spot where your boyfriend disappeared,” Aiden finished for her.
She turned away from him, trying desperately to keep the well of tears in check at the memory. “Yeah, and what business is it of yours, anyway?” God, Addie, the man’s only trying to be nice.
“None, I guess.” Aiden rubbed his chin, looked around the living room. She followed his eyes as they swept over the furniture, taking in the chairs and marble-topped coffee table. Then his brilliant blue gaze traveled to the all-too-comfortable deep-red leather sofa where she and Cael enjoyed many pleasant conversations as well as some steamy sexual encounters while taking in the heat from the large rustic fireplace. Aiden meandered his way through the entry, his gaze lingering on the massive window spanning the entire wall, and the breathtaking view of the ocean. His eyes glanced briefly up the stairs before settling back on hers. “This is a nice place you have. I can see why you might want to hole up here and hide for a while.”
“I’m not hiding,” she shot back at him, not meaning to sound so curt. Lowering her voice a tad she added, “I’m … adjusting.”
He nodded. “Aye, I see that you are.” He reached out, took a strand of her hair that hung annoyingly in her face between his thumb and finger, slid them to the end. She flinched at the gentle gesture. “You look thin. When did you eat last?”
“Not that it’s any of your business, I ate …” she had to think about that. When did she last eat? “Um … recently.” Addie frowned, pissed that she couldn’t think of a good reason not to be nice to him. He was only trying to help.
He nodded again. “I, uh … was on my way home from Manny’s grocery store. I saw the smoke from the chimney and thought I’d stop in. I have a couple of steaks in the car. I wouldn’t mind sharing … if you want.”
Her stomach grumbled at the mention of the steaks and she placed her hand over the traitorous organ in an attempt to cover up the rumble. Maybe she was hungry, but having Aiden in for dinner was not going to happen. She was certain to find something in the kitchen to fix. Maybe. There had to be some leftovers from the last time Maia brought her something to eat.
Aiden grinned at her. “Your stomach seems to like the idea of food.”
Something about Aiden tickled her. He always seemed a little shy, but not, if that made any sense. He was full of charm but unpretentious. That was it. He was pretty hot for an older guy too. Okay, he wasn’t that old and he wasn’t as gorgeous as Cael. Addie caught herself comparing the two; well, maybe, but in a different way. Her mind rambled on with the strangest thoughts lately. It must be because she hadn’t been taking very good care of herself.
Aiden swiped his hand through his shoulder-length dark hair similar to the way Cael always did. Addie shook her head. “No. I …” she glanced at the kitchen. “I have dinner. I ... I’m sure of it.” Why was she having such a hard time talking? “I mean, I do. I do have dinner … already.”
“Right,” he said, strolling to the kitchen as if he’d been invited to stay.
“Hey! Where are you going?” Addie trailed behind him.
He stopped at the entrance, glancing around at the empty counter, the empty stove, and the dark oven. He opened the refrigerator and saw the starkness of the cold box. “Yeah. I see you have plenty to eat.”
His sarcasm exhausted her. She leaned against the doorframe, suddenly faint, unable to hold herself up.
Aiden stepped within inches of her, staring into her eyes as he propped his hand along the side of the doorframe very close to her face. She stole a quick glance at his long fingers.
