Day 8 of the 12 Days of Christmas

Mina J Moore

A writer at heart, I’ve been putting words together for years now. I love to write about hot bad boy heroes and strong feisty women. Paranormal is my favorite but I can skip around to other Romantic genres without a problem!

Author Interview

What inspired you to write your first book?

I wrote my first book a lifetime ago. I remember reading a fantasy and thinking, I could do this! It was great to sit and type for the first time. I ended up finishing that book. It was over 800 pages. Looking back now, my writing style has changed dramatically and that book would need a big makeover.
How did you come up with the titles of each book ?

It’s funny but I usually come up with the title last. I like my them to have a very meaningful message and connection to the story. I can’t title it if I am not sure how the story will progress.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
For my latest publication, A Vampire’s Touch, I would have to say, embrace change. There is a huge adjustment for the heroine, Sienna, and she has to take the bull by the horns and deal. I would still trade placed with her in a heartbeat…LOL.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
There are some situations that may be close and I can better relate to some scenes but mostly it’s pure fiction.

What books have most influenced your life most?
I can answer that with what writers have influenced me. That would be J. R. Ward. She toughened my up and gave me the nerve to write what I really felt and not what is proper or expected. I admire that.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
That would have to be Nickie Asher. She had taught me a great deal in a short period of time.

What book are you reading now?
Guess? LOL…Rapture by J.R. Ward.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
There are so many I can’t name just one. I am currently very impressed with Livia Ellis and Karli Rush. Nickie Asher is an incredible talent also.

What are your current projects?
I am currently working on a short story for Christmas due out December 2012 called “The Dom Prize”. It’s exactly what the title implies… :)

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your books ?
There are some scenes I would embellish or give more detail on but overall, I am happy.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I starting as an avid reader, sneaking in historical romances when I was thirteen. Later on, I found myself mentally rewriting scenes in my head or brainstorming on how I would have written the scene.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I tend to make up the story as I go with a very loose outline. Sometimes I have to stop and really think it all the way through. At this point I will slow down to make sure everything makes sense.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Finding the time to write. I currently have a full time job so it can be very challenging.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
With every new project, I learn something new. I think as writers we improve the more we write.

Do you have any advice for other writers?
If you are serious be prepared for work and keep writing and reading what you love to write.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I love to hear from them. Their feedback is what keeps me moving forward on those tough days.
